NIA And DITP to Jointly Promote Thai Startups To ASEAN At Startup Thailand 2019
National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) or NIA and Department of International Trade Promotion by the New Economy Academy (NEA) are jointly working to drive the Thai startups in sectors of service and travel, health and medical to enter the overseas market by which ASEAN is the target market.
However, “pitching” is a point that dissuades Thai startups to go overseas. Therefor NIA in collaboration with NEA launch “Pitch2Success: taking Thai startups to international” program to drive the participants to join the international pitching “Startup Thailand 2019”.
According to DITP deputy director-general to Wittayakorn Maneenetr, DITP has a policy to strengthen Thai startups to go abroad especially ASEAN countries with the population of more than 600 million. The interesting countries include Indonesia with its 250 million of population and CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam) where consumer behavior is similar to Thailand, especially the sector of services of transportation and travel, financial service, e-commerce, entertainment, medical and agricultural technology.
Nantapong Jiralertpong, Director of NEA said NEA focuses on collaboration with organizations for entrepreneurs through a support of fund raising, business partnership, innovation development. Those organizations are Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry, financial and banking institutes, higher education institutes, Federation of Thai Industries and private sector in startup business.
However, Thai startups mostly lack of “pitching” skill which is a vital tool to draw investors. NEA thus has worked with National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) or NIA on the “Picth2Success: Taking Thai startups to international” program and educate the startups in the area of pitching in abroad.
The program has invited proficient speakers to share with 40 startups and after the training and workshop, the real pitching will be addressed with the committee. Ten finalists who pass the test will go for pitching for fund raising with investors at Startup Thailand 2019, the largest startup event in Southeast Asia. Moreover, those 40 startups who join the Pitch2Sucess program will be given a right to present their booths at the event.
Krithapaka Boonfueng, deputy director for innovation system of the National Innovation Agency (NIA) said there are around 2,000 startups who join with NIA’s Startup Thailand program, but small numbers of them have international business model.
Initially, NIA will invite foreign startups to join and do business in Thailand which NIA will facilitate them in terms of setting up a company, landing pad, smart visa, one-stop service at True Digital Park Punnavithi District and Global Hub at Chiang Mai & Co in Chiang Mai.
