TCEB joins NIA to upgrade MICE

National Innovation Agency (NIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) to upgrade Thailand’s MICE industry with innovations on 17 May, 2018 at the Startup Thailand 2018 event.

TCEB Board Member Chiruit Isarangkun na Ayuthaya said that signing this MoU was part of a 5-year framework which had the objective of promotions through the MICE business in three principal aspects:

1) Promoting and upgrading Thailand to be a leader of the MICE industry on the global stage (Innovation Promotion) through various stages such as trade shows and road shows.

2) Upgrading areas with potential to be Innovation Districts through the method of MICE Cities, distributing prosperity and income to local areas.

3) Developing Innovation Capability for personnel at every level of the MICE industry from executives to workers and students through the “MICE Academy.”

“The MICE Industry is a driver of the national economy which has the best potential in the ASEAN region. Innovations will help to add more value and capability to our MICE industry. For instance, there is developing products or applications which facilitate organizing events. There is promoting innovative ways of staging events. Also, we are creating a network of partners involved with innovation both domestically and internationally, for mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange of know-how.”

NIA Executive Director Pun-Arj Chaiaratana noted that the NIA’s brief covers the development of innovation in many fields. This includes upgrading the potential of startup entrepreneurs in terms of technology, incubation, training and creating opportunities to access innovation. This extends and benefits market expansion, as well as giving support to venture capital. This MoU with TCEB extends the current operations of NIA to cooperate in the three areas outlined above, to upgrade Thai innovation to be even more efficient.

“NIA plans to expand the framework of innovation development to Media Innovation, in which the MICE industry is a key support. We also plan to make connections with various countries to show off distinctively Thai innovation. Just as the innovation of countries such as Japan or Germany is recognized worldwide, Thailand can also climb to this level.”
